Você já ouviu falar na Síndrome do Impostor? Trata-se de uma desordem psicológica na qual a pessoa não aceita ou não admite suas conquistas, pois não acredita que é merecedora.
O indivíduo acha que é uma fraude, que seu êxito se deve à sorte e que a qualquer momento alguém pode desmascará-lo. Em geral, quem possui a síndrome tem uma auto-cobrança excessiva, o que pode trazer prejuízos à saúde física e mental, além de interferir na vida profissional.
Após estudo aprofundado, a psicóloga Gail Matthews, da Universidade Dominicana da Califórnia, detectou que a Síndrome do Impostor atinge, em média, 70% dos profissionais bem-sucedidos, principalmente mulheres, como a ex-primeira-dama dos Estados Unidos, Michelle Obama.
Michelle revelou, em uma entrevista concedida no Reino Unido, no final do ano passado, que sofreu com a síndrome durante anos. Tudo teria começado quando seu orientador profissional, na Universidade de Harvard, onde estudou, disse que ela nunca seria boa o suficiente, estigma que carregou por muito tempo e contra o qual ainda luta até hoje.
“A pessoa acredita que todas as tarefas que assume precisam ser perfeitamente executadas e, devido ao elevado nível de exigência, acaba procrastinando suas atividades. Geralmente, esse profissional tende a ser obsessivo com detalhes, podendo, inclusive, perder a objetividade”, alerta David Braga, CEO da Prime Talent, empresa de busca e seleção de executivos de média e alta gestão, que atua em todos os setores da economia na América Latina.
O perfeccionismo, muitas vezes, anda de mãos dadas com a síndrome. Um estudo conduzido entre os anos de 1989 e 2016 por Thomas Curran, do Departamento de Saúde da Universidade de Bath, no Reino Unido, e Andrew P. Hill, da Universidade de York, indicou que o perfeccionismo pode impactar de forma severa a saúde mental do indivíduo.
De acordo com David Braga, ao identificar essas posturas, a pessoa deve buscar um profissional que funcione como uma espécie de mentor para auxiliá-la nas questões técnicas e lhe transmitir mais segurança.
“A psicoterapia também pode ser um bom caminho. Se conhecer, entender seus pontos fortes e fortalecer seus talentos é essencial. O indivíduo precisa se conscientizar de que suas conquistas não são uma questão de sorte. Sem talento, nada do que ele realizou teria sido possível”, enfatiza.
