Estima-se que as demências tenham uma incidência de 10% a 15% nos adultos acima de 65 anos, em todo o mundo. A demência é um termo que engloba diversas doenças neurodegenerativas progressivas, as quais envolvem um conjunto de sintomas diretamente ligado à perda cognitiva, como problemas de memória, raciocínio, linguagem e alterações de comportamento.
Existem diversos tipos de demência, e a mais conhecida é a Doença de Alzheimer, patologia degenerativa que não tem cura, mas pode ser tratada de forma multidisciplinar para que o paciente tenha uma melhor qualidade de vida. Esse tema será abordado pelo psiquiatra e psicogeriatra André Gordilho e pela psicóloga Raíssa Silveira, integrantes do Núcleo da Terceira idade da Holiste Psiquiatria, na live promovida pela clínica hoje (2), às 19h30.
“A evolução da doença é individual, mas existem alguns fatores que podem ajudar para que a progressão seja mais lenta e, especialmente, colaborar para uma qualidade de vida melhor. A adoção de hábitos saudáveis com uma dieta equilibrada, sono e prática de exercícios regulares pode promover uma melhora na saúde física e mental. Outras abordagens terapêuticas, como a estimulação cognitiva, têm se mostrado efetivas, já que contribuem para retardar a evolução da doença e preservar por mais tempo as funções cognitivas”, afirma André Gordilho.
A doença de Alzheimer é a síndrome com maior prevalência entre as demências, representando 60% a 70% dos casos. Seu avanço acontece de forma progressiva e irreversível, afetando – de forma gradual – as funções cognitivas, como atenção, concentração e raciocínio, trazendo também alterações no comportamento e personalidade do indivíduo. Essas perdas ocasionam prejuízos significativos na capacidade produtiva e nas relações sociais. Segundo dados da Associação Brasileira de Alzheimer (ABRAz), mais de 1,6 milhões de brasileiros sofrem com a doença de Alzheimer.
A psicóloga do Núcleo da Terceira Idade da Holiste, Raíssa da Silveira, destaca a importância de manter os idosos estimulados durante a quarentena, prevenindo um declínio cognitivo e físico.
“Pode-se manter atividades do tratamento em casa, como se exercitar, realizar atendimentos terapêuticos online, caso o idoso faça estimulação cognitiva, terapia, e até consultas a médicos por telemedicina. Também é possível usar a tecnologia para que eles mantenham contato com a família e amigos”, indica Raíssa.
