Low-carb: alternativa contra a obesidade infantil
Muito se fala na alimentação low-carb no dia a dia de famosos e influencers nas redes sociais, mas o que pouco se menciona é como essa dieta pode beneficiar o tratamento contra obesidade e sobrepeso que, segundo dados da Federação Mundial da Obesidade, atingem 42 milhões de crianças de 0 a 5 anos, no mundo inteiro.
No Brasil, de acordo com pesquisas do Ministério da Saúde, 12,9% da população infantil de 5 a 9 anos já sofrem dessa condição. “Estudos já demonstraram a eficácia da abordagem low-carb em adolescentes com obesidade e síndrome metabólica”, afirma o médico, diretor-presidente da Associação Brasileira LowCarb (ABLC), José Carlos Souto.
Diferente do que se pensa por aí, as causas da obesidade são múltiplas, incluindo fatores genéticos, psicossociais, comportamentais e até ambientais. Não é possível ignorar, contudo, a alimentação como elemento-chave para o seu desenvolvimento. Por isso a alimentação low-carb torna-se eficiente pois restringe açúcares e carboidratos refinados, prezando pelo consumo de comidas de verdade – proteínas, gorduras naturais e vegetais de baixo amido.
Inclusive, o periódico científico Pediatrics já publicou estudo onde indica que low-carb pode ser uma alternativa viável também para crianças diabéticas, desde que acompanhadas pelo endocrinologista pediátrico e por um nutricionista com experiência nesta área.
“A má alimentação é um fator importante para a ocorrência de obesidade, não apenas infantil, mas em todas as idades. Entendendo por má alimentação, o consumo de alimentos altamente processados, com grande quantidade de açúcares e farinhas, que apresentam, normalmente, baixo valor nutricional. Entre esses produtos estão: biscoitos, cereais, balas, confeitos, bebidas como refrigerantes, e até mesmo os sucos de frutas mais comumente apreciados, como laranja e uva”, salienta Souto.
O médico confirmou ainda as minhas – e de um monte de gente – suspeitas a respeito da baixa saciedade desses alimentos, o que nos faz comer ainda mais, resultando no ganho de peso. Lembrando que crianças saudáveis, sem sobrepeso, nem diabetes, por exemplo, não precisam fazer low carb. Mas sem excessos!
“Uma forma interessante de fazer isso é envolvê-las [as crianças] no preparo de receitas saudáveis, estimulando o contato delas com os ingredientes desde cedo”, sugere o médico endocrinologista, diretor científico de Medicina da ABLC, Rodrigo Bomeny.
