E além dos cuidados necessários para que seu futuro animal de estimação tenha uma vida segura e saudável, também é importante pesquisar qual o melhor animal para a sua casa e que se encaixe de maneira adequada a seu cotidiano. No momento de escolher um cão, o tamanho, nível de energia e temperamento são fatores a se considerar.
A médica-veterinária Carolina Rocha, mestre em comportamento animal pela Universidade de São Paulo (USP) e CEO da Pet Anjo explica que, atualmente no Brasil, os cães sem raça definida (SRD) são os mais populares, mas depois deles, algumas raças figuram entre as favoritas dos tutores em todo o país.
“É importante ressaltar que os cães sem raça, por possuírem uma alta variabilidade genética, costumam apresentar uma boa saúde geral, sendo mais raros casos de câncer e problemas motores ou ósseos, e menores os problemas de comportamento, quadros de ansiedade de separação e agressividade”, explica a especialista.
Logo atrás da liderança dos “vira-latas”, a segunda raça mais popular é o yorkshire, de acordo com ranking preparado pela Pet Anjo. “Um dos fatores que explica a popularidade é seu tamanho, apropriado para apartamentos, e o nível de energia médio, que faz com que a demanda por exercícios e passeios não seja tão alta. O yorkshire é propenso à ansiedade de separação, e não é muito apropriado para o convívio com crianças pequenas se não for acostumado, mas é muito próximo de seus tutores”, afirma.

Em seguida vem o poodle, “uma das raças mais inteligentes e propensas a aprender novos comandos e truques, requer pouco cuidado com pelos e é mais tolerante com crianças”, explica Carolina.
Outro campeão dos apartamentos é o quarto lugar na lista de cães mais populares, o maltês. “Costuma ser muito apegado às pessoas da casa, é realmente um cachorrinho de colo, um pouco mais temperamental. Seu pelo, mais fino, exige mais cuidados, mas é bastante brincalhão, com um nível de energia intermediário”. Diferente do quinto lugar da lista, o labrador, um dos cães mais adorados e utilizados para trabalho, e que possui um pelo mais curto. “O labrador tem um nível de energia bem alto, então é importante que ele passeie pelo menos uma hora e meia por dia. Ele precisa ver coisas novas, e é muito sensível à percepção do ambiente e à emoção das pessoas. Não é teimoso, o que o torna fácil de treinar, mas toda essa sensibilidade também o faz muito suscetível a mudanças que possam ocorrer no seu cotidiano”. Com um temperamento, porte e aparência parecida, porém com pelos mais longos, o sexto lugar é do golden retriever, que pelo seu tamanho, também precisa de exercícios e atividades constantes.

O famoso salsichinha, o daschhund (também chamado de basset, por sua semelhança com o franco-inglês basset hound) figura em sétimo. “É um cão bastante saudável e apropriado para famílias, e dá pouco trabalho com pelagem. Em relação ao convívio com outros cães, é razoavelmente reservado, o que significa que muitas vezes prefere ficar sozinho. Late bastante para estranhos, e por seu perfil de caçador, costuma seguir coisas em movimento, como pequenos animais. É preciso acompanhar o seu peso sempre com atenção, pois tem tendência a obesidade, o que é muito prejudicial a sua coluna alongada”.

Outra raça que tem se tornado cada vez mais popular é o oitavo lugar, o buldogue francês. É uma raça sociável em relação a outros cães, e se dá bem com crianças. “É alegre e brincalhão, e dá pouco trabalho com pelagem. Absorve rápido as informações e tem um nível de energia de médio para alto, orientado para brincadeiras. Por ser também uma raça braquicefálica [de focinho achatado], possui sensibilidade a temperaturas e à quantidade de exercícios”.
O nono colocado é o beagle, um cão de porte médio e alto nível de energia, dotado de instinto de caça e certa teimosia que o torna mais resistente a treinamentos. “É um cão muito ansioso e ligado em tudo que acontece à sua volta. É muito conectado a outros cães, adultos e crianças. Por ser tão próximo da família, não costuma ficar tranquilo quando deixado sozinho”.
A médica-veterinária salienta, no entanto, que as definições de raça não determinam de maneira exata como será cada animal. “É importante trabalhar o comportamento do animal desde pequeno, melhorando os pontos mais fracos de cada um”.
